Uganda has officially communicated her intent to accede to the Paris Agreement. Hon. Kuteesa, the Minister for Foreign Affairs also the former President of the 70th General Assembly has signed the Agreement.
The instruments of ratification will be officially deposited at the 71st Session of the General Assembly during the high level event on the entry into force of the Paris Agreement on 21st September 2016.
The agreement was opened for signature on April 22 at a high-level signature ceremony.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change official websites indicates that only 27 member states have deposited the instruments of ratification and accept accounting for 39.08 percent of the total Global Green House Gas Emissions. 180 States signed the deal at the event last year in Paris.
The Paris Agreement enters into force 30 days after at least 55 countries, accounting for 55 percent of global greenhouse emissions, deposit their instruments of ratification or acceptance with the UN Secretary General.
