the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the world’s largest publicly-funded research partnership working for a food, nutrition, and climate secure future, is set to host its first-ever Science Week from 1st to 5th July 2024 at the United Nations Campus in Nairobi, Kenya.
As climate change continues to disrupt global food, land and water systems and harm the lives and livelihoods of farmers and consumers worldwide, CGIAR aims to look for lasting sustainable solutions.
The CGIAR Science Week also aims to bring together leading scientists, policymakers, industry experts and advocates worldwide to address these pressing challenges.
“With science, we can reimagine a sustainable and healthy future for people and the planet,” said Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, CGIAR Executive Managing Director. “At the inaugural CGIAR Science Week, we will bring together the people, ideas, and innovations that can make this ambition a reality.”
With stakeholder and partner consultations on CGIAR’s proposed research programs for 2025-2030, the event offers a unique opportunity to shape the scientific response to the world’s most urgent challenges. Other key activities include:
Keynote speeches and panel discussions with leading agriculture, climate science, food security experts, and policymakers. Science Talks and workshops that showcase the best of food, land, and water systems science and innovation.
An exhibition of game-changing innovations that are improving the lives of producers and consumers worldwide. Field visits to CGIAR, partner labs, and research stations to see science in action. Networking opportunities to form meaningful and mission-driven partnerships.
CGIAR Science Week will feature an impressive lineup of speakers with confirmed participation or partnership with: the Government of Kenya, the African Union, Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and the African Development Bank (AfDB)
Confirmed CGIAR speakers include Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, CGIAR Executive Managing Director: A leader in agricultural science, and Lindiwe Majele Sibanda, Chair, CGIAR System Board: Known for her pioneering work in animal science.
Also in attendance will be the CGIAR global senior leadership team, including the Directors General of all CGIAR research centres and leaders in agriculture and climate to inspire action for sustainable food systems. This inaugural event features interactive sessions, workshops, and keynote presentations to promote global collaboration and innovation.
