Ethiopian Steel Profiling & Building Company plc (ESPBC) proudly marks its 20th anniversary.

Founded two decades ago with a vision to stimulate economic independence, spur employment, build knowledge and generate profitable sustainable growth, ESPBC has grown from a small initiative focused on local job creation in Ethiopia to a leading manufacturer of steel structures and building solutions.

Over the past two decades, the company has established itself as a key player in the Ethiopian steel industry, with a reputation for quality workmanship, innovative solutions, and sustainable business practices.

From its beginnings producing steel cold rolled profiles, hydraform blocks and pre-painted corrugated sheets, the company has evolved to meet changing market demands. Investment in modern technologies and machinery over time has allowed ESPBC to expand its product portfolio, adding increasingly advanced steel profiling, and other manufacturing and building capabilities. “It has been a pleasure to witness the success of this company, built on the expertise and hard work of talented people,” states ESPBC’s founder, Piet Noordzij, who’s retirement at the age of 80 coincides with the company’s celebration of its 20th anniversary.

ESPBC is committed to being the leading solution-oriented building partner in Eastern Africa. “Our future lies in optimized, modular building solutions, locally produced and constructed to import quality standards” explains Mahdi Zemmouchi, General Manager of ESPBC.

“We cooperate close with our Dutch principal investor KS Industries who have a proven track record in these building solutions in Europe. We strongly believe this is the future, and we’re excited to shape it together with our employees, business partners and customers.” With the rapid economic growth in the region, the company aims to leverage its expertise in steel manufacturing to expand to modular steel building systems. These modern systems offer clients flexible and scalable solutions, allowing structure expansion as businesses’ needs grow.

At the heart of ESPBC’s success lies its dedicated 120-strong workforce, whose skills and commitment are central to the company’s operations. As part of its ongoing growth strategy, ESPBC continues to invest in training programs, new machinery, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

“Sharing knowledge and expertise is sharing energy,” says Corné Rottier, representative of KS Industries, an investor in ESPBC. “We are rolling out a new investment program in ESPBC to introduce state-of-the-art equipment and enhance our team’s capabilities in research & development, engineering, and operational excellence.”

“ESPBC will extend and further strengthen its reputation in delivering import quality products and solutions, proudly designed, engineered and manufactured in Ethiopia. We will continue to build on our achievements and seize new opportunities. With collaboration, quality, and passion driving us forward, ESPBC is well-positioned to thrive in the evolving landscape of East Africa,” concludes Mahdi Zemmouchi, while expressing his optimism for the company’s next chapter.
