60 Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from Botswana, the Kingdom of Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom and South Africa will participate in Frontiers of Science meeting under the theme of Environmental Health and its implications on Human Health in Johannesburg from 25-27 September 2024
The meeting is co-hosted by The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), in collaboration with the Royal Society (United Kingdom).
The meeting is supported by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), the British High Commission, and the British Council. An evening reception will be held on 25 September 2024, where senior executives and leaders from the scientific community will attend. The meeting will explore five key subthemes: :
– Subtheme 1: Co-infection of TB and HIV and its implications
– Subtheme 2: Smart materials (Chemistry/Material Science)
– Subtheme 3: Air Quality
– Subtheme 4: Adolescent mental health
– Subtheme 5: Astrophysics
According to the notification from the ASSAf, the meeting will be facilitated in collaboration with partner Academies in the SADC region and the Royal Society. The key output of this meeting will be a proceedings report, providing recommendations for public health policies aimed at mitigating the environmental impacts on human health. The report will be widely disseminated to stakeholders across the UK, Africa, and other regions, particularly to relevant government authorities, to inform future work on this topic.
